Early Pregnancy Ultrasound at Paramaa Fertility & Women Care Centre

Early pregnancy is a very important and sensitive period. A viability scan is the first ultrasound done after pregnancy is confirmed to check whether the pregnancy is developing normally inside the uterus. This scan helps detect the heartbeat, confirm the location of pregnancy, and identify any early complications.

At Paramaa Fertility & Women Care Centre, early pregnancy viability scans are performed with advanced ultrasound technology under the supervision of Dr. Paramita Hazari, with special care for both normal and high-risk pregnancies.

Early diagnosis helps ensure safe pregnancy and timely treatment if needed.

What is an Early Pregnancy Viability Scan?

A viability scan is an ultrasound done in the early weeks of pregnancy to confirm that the pregnancy is progressing normally.

This scan helps to check:

  • Whether the pregnancy is inside the uterus
  • Whether the baby’s heartbeat is present
  • Whether the growth is normal
  • Whether there is any bleeding or complication
  • Whether it is single or twin pregnancy

This scan gives reassurance to the mother and helps the doctor plan further care.

When is a Viability Scan done?

A viability scan is usually done between:

  • 5 weeks to 8 weeks of pregnancy

In some cases, it may be done earlier or repeated if needed. Doctor may advise early scan if:

  • Pain in abdomen
  • Bleeding in early pregnancy
  • Previous miscarriage
  • IVF pregnancy
  • High-risk pregnancy
  • History of ectopic pregnancy
  • Uncertain last period date

Why is Viability Scan important?

Early pregnancy scan helps detect problems at the right time. It can help diagnose:

  • Ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside uterus)
  • Missed abortion
  • Threatened miscarriage
  • Twin pregnancy
  • Slow growth
  • No heartbeat
  • Abnormal pregnancy

Early detection allows proper treatment and better outcome.

What happens during the scan?

The scan is done using ultrasound and is safe for both mother and baby. Two types of scan may be used:

Abdominal Ultrasound

Scan done over the abdomen.

Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVS)

Scan done internally for better clarity in early pregnancy.

TVS scan is commonly used in early pregnancy and gives more accurate results. The procedure is painless and takes only a few minutes.

Viability Scan in IVF and High-Risk Pregnancy

Early scan is especially important in:

  • IVF pregnancy
  • Previous miscarriage
  • Previous ectopic pregnancy
  • Diabetes in pregnancy
  • Thyroid problems
  • Advanced age pregnancy
  • Multiple pregnancy

Close monitoring helps reduce risk and ensures safe pregnancy.
