What is ICSI?

ICSI Procedure: Step-by-Step
ICSI is performed as part of the IVF cycle. The process involves multiple stages:
1. Ovarian Stimulation

Ultrasound scans are performed to monitor the growth and maturity of follicles.
3. Egg Retrieval
Mature eggs are collected through a minor procedure under sedation.
4. Sperm Collection or Retrieval
Sperm is collected either through ejaculation or surgical retrieval (TESA/PESA) if required.
5. Sperm Selection
A single high-quality sperm is selected under a high-powered microscope by an embryologist.
6. Microinjection
The selected sperm is injected directly into the egg using a microneedle.
7. Embryo Development
Fertilized eggs are monitored as they develop into embryos over 3–5 days.
8. Embryo Transfer
A healthy embryo is transferred into the uterus.
9. Pregnancy Test
A blood test confirms pregnancy after about two weeks.
